Seedings are based on the pre-bowl rankings. The top 16 teams, regardless of conference affiliation, are placed in the tournament. First and second round games are hosted at the home site of the higher seeded team.
This year's field consists of:
1-Texas (13-0), 2-Alabama (13-0), 3-Cincinnati (12-0), 4-TCU (12-0), 5-Florida (12-1), 6-Boise State (13-0), 7-Oregon (10-2), 8-Ohio State (10-2), 9-Iowa (10-2), 10-Georgia Tech(11-2), 11-Virginia Tech (9-3), 12-BYU (10-2), 13-Penn State (10-2), 14-LSU (9-3), 15-Central Michigan (11-2), and 16-Miami (9-3).
